Meeting community needsProject D.O.V.E. (Developing Opportunities for Volunteer Engagement) is designed to build capacity in the non-profit sector by supporting and facilitating volunteerism in the Wood Buffalo Region. Project D.O.V.E.’s Volunteer Engagement Coordinator works one on one with agencies in the region to support them in identifying their volunteer needs and implementing strategies, in line with the best practices in volunteerism, for meeting those needs. Working with the agency, for example, on recruitment, we create volunteer job descriptions and post them on GetInvolved.ca, Govolunteer.ca and other volunteer recruitment websites.
The Engagement Coordinator works with local business and industry to leverage their existing employer-sponsored volunteer programs. The goal of the project is to meet the volunteer needs of local agencies with responsible, enthusiastic individuals from the region while developing engaging opportunities for individuals and groups who want to volunteer.
Project D.O.V.E is not a one-to-one matching service for specific volunteer positions. Rather, the coordinator works to develop diverse and enriching volunteer opportunities that meet the needs of local organizations and volunteers while simultaneously nurturing a community of local volunteers interested in participating in those opportunities. In this way the project builds long-term relationships among agencies and volunteers that are more productive, effective, sustainable, and ultimately contribute to community development in a way that one-time, short-term recruitment does not.
