FuseSocial hosted the
3rd Wood Buffalo Timeraiser presented by Suncor
on Thursday, April 10th during
National Volunteer Week (April 6th to 12th).
Art. Paid with Heart.
FuseSocial’s Silent Auction with a Twist.
The event took place at MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation. Unlike traditional art auctions, attendees of the event bid volunteer hours instead of money for original local artwork.
FuseSocial purchased 40 pieces of art for approximately $20,000 from several of Wood Buffalo’s most talented artists. The varied collection included canvas paintings, jewelry, and sculptures.
Social profit organizations set up exhibitor booths at the event to build awareness for their causes and to network with the attendees. Participating organizations included Centre of Hope, MS Society, Stepping Stones, Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Big Brothers/ Big Sisters (BBBS), Fort McMurray Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), HIV North, Scouts Canada, Chess Club, Alberta Brian Injury Network, Scouts Canada, McMurray Sno-Drifters Association, Some Other Solutions (SOS), Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), and Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.
To encourage more participants to bid this year, a maximum bid amount of 200 hours was placed. More than a quarter of the pieces were auctioned off for the maximum amount. Over 3,800 volunteer hours in total were raised from the auctioning of those art pieces. The next Wood Buffalo Timeraiser is currently being planned for April 2015.
FuseSocial would like to publicly thank all the volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and attendees who helped make the 3rd Wood Buffalo Timeraiser presented by Suncor a successful event.
