Would you like to exchange your time instead of your money to obtain Artwork from Local emerging artists? If you can answer YES to any of the above questions then get your ticket to the 1st Wood Buffalo TIMERAISER! Timeraiser a silent art auction with a twist. Instead of bidding money, participants bid volunteer time to agencies that need their skills and energy. We buy all artwork at fair market value and auction it off on the night of the Timeraiser. The 1st Wood Buffalo Timeraiser will be held on April 18th 2012. Successful auction bidders have 12 months to complete their volunteer pledge. The piece of artwork is meant to act as a reminder of their goodwill. To date, the Timeraiser has generated 100,000 volunteer hours and invested $520,000 in the careers of emerging Canadian artists. The event will feature Live music from Daniel Gillies, an assortment of Appetizers & Drinks Amazing Local Art Work from all over Fort McMurray. Photography, Painting, & Pottery. Calling all emerging artists: Get paid and generate volunteer hours! We are thrilled to announce that the Call to Artists for our 1st Wood Buffalo Timeraiser is now open. We are looking to purchase artwork from local, emerging artists to help inspire participants in Wood Buffalo to donate their time in support of great causes. Artwork will be in part selected by our volunteer jury from the Wood Buffalo Art Community. There is no submission fee associated with this call. SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday April 4th, 2012 at 11 p.m. To apply, please submit the following to communications@volunteerwoodbuffalo.ca : • High Resolution digital copy/picture of your submission • Artists Statement (max 250 words) • Brief Bio (max 250 words) • Photo of yourself (not required) • Price ![]() What is Timeraiser? The Wood Buffalo region will join over 150 Communities around Alberta that will pay tribute to community volunteers who graciously donate their time and energy. ![]() ![]() Inspired by the ‘Howl Heard around the World’ after the slaughter of 100 sled dogs in Whistler, BC in 2010, the Fort McMurray SPCA will be holding a 5km walk, with a 2.5 km option, to raise awareness about animal abuse prevention and what we can do to end suffering. The Walk will begin at 11:00 am at MacDonald Island Park. Join us to walk, share, inspire and give animals a VOICE. Kids, friends, families, and dogs all welcome. ![]() This month we will be hosting our first Volunteer Manager’s Breakfast. We are very excited as it will give us all time to share best practices; network with fellow volunteer managers and exchange idea. All while enjoying Breakfast. This meeting for all organizations and individuals whom are interested, in attracting, engaging and retaining volunteers. Over the next year we are planning on having several of these types of meetings. Currently we seeking guest speakers that will be announced before each meeting. Volunteer Wood Buffalo will be hosting a workshop on the Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP). February 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wood Buffalo Community Village Volunteer Wood Buffalo is hosting a SCiP workshop for nonprofit organizations. The free two-hour facilitated workshop provides information about SCiP and is an opportunity to begin creating internship roles for your organization. Now is the time to enhance your HR capacity by creating a part-time internship that engages one of Alberta’s post-secondary students now and over the summer months. McMurray – Feb. 28th As an added incentive, organizations posting SCiP internships between February 13 and March 31 will be entered to win one of four $1000 matching-grant prizes to put towards your organization’s programs and services. If you have already created an internship and/or cannot attend a workshop, no worries, you will still be eligible for a matching grant. If you haven’t applied for SCiP, click here! After you apply Volunteer Alberta will send you all the relevant information and resources you require to start capitalizing on this unique opportunity. SCiP interns, will be involved in the creation, implementation, or management of an initiative or program, gaining first-hand experience of the work done by the non-profit/voluntary sector and an in-depth look at how the sector functions as a whole. Upon completion a $1,000 bursary will be awarded by Alberta Advanced Education and Technology to each student!
